ENGL 3375 - Later Renaissance British Literature Credit Hours: 3 A study of British literature and culture during a century of great change. From the death of Elizabeth I to the Civil War, from the Interregnum to the Restoration, from England’s national boundaries to its explorations and colonialist origins, we will survey poets, their protgs, and their subjects; the drama as it shifts from court masque to city comedy, from boys playing women to women taking to the stage and writing for the stage; the rise of women taking up the pen in support of their faith, their families, and themselves. Our major figure for the period is John Milton.
